NEW HAMPSHIRE
With only
18 miles of oceanfront, New Hampshire is not known for beaches, but Hampton
Beach is the local favorite. While locals venture into the ocean, I found
the water to be too cold and uninviting. The controversial Seabrook nuclear
power plant is located near Hampton Beach, and travelers are advised to
stay on the main highways to better beaches both north and south. While
beaches are not New Hampshire's strong suit, I really enjoyed the skiing
experiences at Sunapee and Canon Mountain during my residence in the "Granite
State". Most restaurants only serve hot drinks during the winter,
but I prefer ice tea, having been raised on this stuff in North Carolina.
To satisfy my thirst, I ask the waiters to bring me hot tea, which they
do. Then I request a big glass of ice and proceed to make my own ice tea,
much to their chagrin.
